ABUJA- THE Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, said Nigeria will be built on young people’s innovation and energy, based on their technological progress in various fields of national development.
Osinbajo made this assertion at the Aso Villa Demo Day at the State House Banquet Hall, to unveil 30 successful youth inventors who were outstanding with their innovations and sponsored by Airtel Nigeria, which also gave N3 million each to the 30 winners to continue their projects.
The Aso Demo Day which showcased innovation, entrepreneurship and technology was attended by reputable Information Communication and Technology, ICT, companies, where the Vice President maintained that young people remains the future of the country and their innovation would be taken seriously by the government.
He said: “ I congratulate the winner, all 30 of you are winners in every sense but three of you who have shown themselves outstanding and adjudged to be outstanding. All of them, that organised the Aso Demo Day worked for the government at one time or the other. The Aso Villa Demo Day is the first edition, next year is going to be bigger and better.
“This country will be built on the energy, innovation and resilience of the young people. When young people say they want to be included no one has a choice on that matter. Today, technology has given them the level playing field and made it possible.
“Today, you sit somewhere in your office or living room to create wealth, connectivity across the world. This is not when I was 25, is a new day and completely new day.”
The VP also assured young people that the government would work with their innovations and give them the needed support to actualise their dreams in nation building.
Similarly, the VP who was elated by the visit of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, described his visit as energising.
“It is our excitement to have you here and for the great faith demonstrated. Is possible to live your dream, make your dream and not just come through but come through so fabulously, and to have already influenced your environment and the whole world. This is really great thing you have done.
“Coming to Nigeria especially is so energising, not just the young people but everyone else that you see even the President is on Facebook and I am also on Facebook”, he said.
In his remarks Zuckerberg said, “Am just trying to see what you have done here. Am deeply moved by your towns, machinery and development in this country, and by the progress I feel that it’s all about go make a difference, go make a change.
“It reminds me of when I stated Facebook, I didn’t only start it for fun but because I want to see it in the world and that what I see is people feel good.
“I have faced challenges by different people that you want to see the world and also build the company great and I don’t want to only see Nigeria but also Africa and the whole world.
“The reason why we are here is I am blown away by Nigerians and believe me I am looking forward to seeing you great”, he added.
