SEVEN individuals have been yesterday arraigned by the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee for his or her alleged involvement in some electoral malpractices over the past governorship election in Ondo State.
The suspects have been arraigned in two magistrates courts in Akure.
They embody Adejoye Emmanuel, Olomojuni Morire, Ololajulo Oladeji, Ebigbemi Ayinde, Aminu Sunday, Fagbemi Segun and Tope Awe.
The police prosecuting counsel, Mr. Adeniyi Lawal mentioned the trio of Emmanuel , Morire and Oladeji have been arrested for allegedly possessing eight Everlasting Voter Playing cards at Mahin ward 1 unit sixteen Igokoda in Ilaje Native Authorities Space of the state on the election day..
Lawal stated Ebigbemi was arrested for inflicting breach of the peace on the election day.
He mentioned that Sunday, and Segun and Awe have been arrested by the police at Oke-Ijebu space of Akure for allegedly being possession of harmful weapons in his automobile through the election
The alleged accused individuals had been stated to have dedicated an electoral offence opposite to and punishable underneath part 129 (1) and (four) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) .
The counsel to the defendants, Mr. Femi Adetoye argued that the INEC had no constitutional energy to prosecute alleged electoral offenders noting that the prosecution of electoral offenders was the responsibility of the Legal professional-Normal of the state .
However the prosecuting counsel disagreed with the defendant noting that with part a hundred and fifty of the Electoral Act empowered the the fee to prosecute any electoral offender.
Chief Justice of the Peace Victoria Bob-Manuel nonetheless agreed with the prosecuting counsel and ordered INEC to go forward with the prosecution.
