Jos—Following the fresh outbreak of Lassa Fever in Plateau State, the state government has put measures in place to contain the spread of the disease.
Consequently, the government has trained medical and health personnel as well as sensitised the populace on the need to maintain hygiene.
Speaking yesterday in Jos, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kunden Kamshak, while addressing newsmen at the routine monthly briefing, said so far 10 suspected cases of the disease had been recorded in the state.
Kamshak said the government had risen to the challenge by deploying health workers across the state to sensitise citizens on symptoms and preventive measures of Lassa Fever, especially on issues of keeping clean environment and ensuring that rats were kept out of houses and food items.
“We have commenced aggressive sensitisation and awareness campaign in the state. The campaign is aimed to enlightening the people on how to prevent the disease and ensure that the menace is nipped in the bud,” he said.
On the recorded cases of polio in the North-East zone of the country, the commissioner blamed the development on insurgents activities in the area.
