PORT HARCOURT—Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, has dismissed as tissues of lies, allegations by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state that Governor Nyesom Wike commissioned projects completed by former governor of the state, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi.
State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Sam Nwanosike, said that it was unfortunate that the APC could make such a claim, adding that the party should bury its head in shame over the number of projects allegedly abandoned by the previous government.
He said that Governor Wike, on assumption of office, promised to revisit all valuable projects abandoned by his predecessor. Nwanosike said it was unfortunate that funds meant for the abandoned projects were allegedly diverted by the former government.
He said: “You remember the Nkpogu bridge that was abandoned and consequently became impassable until Governor Wike revisited the project. What will you say about the Rumuolumeni Road that was also abandoned or, is it the the bridge connecting Woji and Odili Road that was completed by this government after it was abandoned by the former government?”
He described as laughable the call by the APC on the governor to resign, saying that it reflected the frustration in the state APC.
“The other time they called for the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. I think they are just showing their frustration. The governor has to set the standard for discipline in governance that was why he suspended the commissioners who came late for a cabinet meeting,” he added.
Meantime, the state APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya, in a statement by Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, his media aide, accused Governor Wike of commissioning projects completed by his predecessor.
Ikanya called on the governor to resign, saying he had failed the state.
He condemned the governor for allegedly scrapping the scholarship scheme initiated by former governor Amaechi, adding that Wike also abandoned the heath centres and schools built by his predecessor. The APC further alleged that the governor had refused to pay salaries of 13,000 teachers recruited by his predecessor.
