The Nigeria Army on Wednesday disclosed that it would deploy drones during the September 28 governorship election to ensure a hitch-free exercise across the state, reports GistNation Media.
The Commander of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Raji Benbela, who spoke to journalists in Benin during operation show of force staged by a combined team of security agencies in the state, said the deployment of the drones will support the aerial view of strategic locations across the state and also help to check activities of hoodlums.
The show of force according to Todaywas organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) and other security agencies in Benin City.
He noted that the show of force was not to intimidate the people but to assure them to come out en masse and vote on Election Day, adding that security agents would be deployed to strategic locations to stop unwanted elements from disrupting the process.
The Edo election according to GistNation Media was earlier scheduled to hold on September 10 but was postponed to September 28 due to security concerns raised by the police and the DSS.
